Aunt Hildegard was my mother’s sister. She lived in Germany and my family lived in the United States, so she and I was only together with her in the same room a precious handful of times (although there were many phone calls at Christmas and other times of the year). But any time spent with her was always a joy. She was always so bright and caring and interested and loving and supportive. I remember going with her and my mother to the Philadelphia Museum of Art (where Rocky ran up the steps) when I was fifteen or so. She was excited as Rocky, although it was because she loved the fine arts and not because she made it up the steps. I remember an earlier visit she made, when I was seven or so, and how our dog, a Belgian Shepard named Cokey (because her coat was the color of Coca-Cola), instantly fell in love with her and never left her side. She drew people to her like that. She was a wonderful person and I will miss her greatly, but I am so glad to have been a small part of her family and to have had the chance to know her.
